Hamburg Süd and Aliança providing a door-to-door transportation chain

In addition to pure maritime transport, intermodal transport is developing an optimal door-to-door transport chain, and the most suitable modes of transport are being put together worldwide. The so-called pre and post runs will be part of Hamburg Süd's specific offer in the future as well.

Hamburg Süd has a particularly efficient and unique door-to-door transport network in Central and South America, where the Intermodal South America, the continent's flagship logistics trade fair, takes place in São Paulo, Brazil from 13 to 15 March. Hamburg Süd and its Brazilian subsidiary Aliança are once again official sponsors of Intermodal South America. On a 200 m2 exhibition stand in the São Paulo Expo (Street 3, Booth 50) exhibition center, and at the connected specialist conference, visitors can obtain comprehensive information about the intermodal and cabotage offers from Hamburg Süd and Aliança.

For intermodal container transports, both shipping companies have built up a worldwide network of reliable partners over many years; specialists in their respective fields, both technically and geographically. "This enables Hamburg Süd to offer its customers tailor-made and reliable logistics solutions in a very flexible and short-term manner," says Frank Smet, CCO of Hamburg Süd. He adds: "Our customers do not have to deal with complex transport chains themselves, and at the same time they can count on the cargo reaching its destination safely with Hamburg Süd, in the shortest possible time and on time."

In Europe, for example, Hamburg-Süd organizes and carries out pre-carriage and follow-up work for around a third of all container shipments by the shipping company - in other regions worldwide, there are even more. Depending on the geography and infrastructure, trains, trucks or inland vessels are used to pick up the cargo inland or to bring it from the port to the final destination. While in India, for example, container transport mainly takes place via the rail network, China mainly uses its major waterways, such as the Yangtze, and in the UK everything usually travels by road.

The Hamburg Süd subsidiary Aliança specializes in intra-Brazilian cabotage and Mercosur traffic. With her cabotage fleet she calls on 18 different ports between Manaus and Puerto Deseado in Argentina - with a total of more than 100 port calls per month. Every year, Aliança conducts more than 200,000 intermodal activities within South America, including stowage, stripping, cross-docking and storage. Two-thirds of Aliança's cabotage transports involve intermodal operations that allow customers to transport their cargo cost-efficiently and with little effort.
