“Fifth lorry has been ordered”

Gebr. Opstal Transport moves into building at auction site Bleiswijk

Last year, Gebr. Opstal Transport was founded as a sort of joke. For years, John Opstal had worked in a planning department, his brother was active as a driver, and soon one thing led to another. The transport activities have now taken serious shape. In five weeks, the fifth lorry is expected, and on next Monday, the company will move into a building at the auction site in Bleiswijk, the Netherlands.

“At first we were planning to build our own new building, but when we heard this building at the auction site of Blesiwijk became vacant, we jumped on this chance,” John says. “Besides office space, this building also has two loading docks and a warehouse of 300 m2, and we want to install a cold store in this, so that we can store and cross-dock products as an added value to our customers.”

“I didn’t expect it would all go this quickly. We’re incredibly busy, and our lorries are often on the road 24 hours per day,” John says. The majority of transport consists of fruit and vegetables. “We drive to and from France and Belgium a lot, and we often transport reefer containers in the Netherlands. But we’ll do anything,” the transporter says.

If the growth continues at this speed, the fleet of cars will soon be in double digits, but that’s not the goal, according to John. “We want to be a reliable transporter for our customers, and we want to do what we say. That has resulted in growth in recent years. Besides my two brothers who are on the road every day, we now have four employees. You don’t go into transport to become millionaires, but we can earn our bread and butter thanks to our customers, who pay well and on time.”
