China: Walmart technology can calculate deterioration of fruit and veg

Walmart has recently divulged that they are in the process of researching and developing a new technology called Eden. This technology can calculate the period in which fruit and vegetables will go bad. Employees from the Walmart retail center utilize this technology. They examine flawed products, record data, and save it in digital format. The quality standards predominantly derive from the US Ministry of Agriculture and from Walmart's internal quality department. Eden will be able to independently judge the appearance of scanned agricultural products that arrive in the center. Eden will sift through and take out the products in the warehouse that do not meet with the agricultural product standards.

In addition, Eden will combine this with data on real-time changes, such as changes in the storage temperature of products or the conditions of distribution. Walmart will attach tracking equipment to products that are moved in trucks between farm, distribution center, and shops to inspect and control the temperature. If the optimum temperature is exceeded during transport, then Eden can redirect the truck to the nearest destination. This is because higher temperatures can cause the products to spoil more quickly.
