Increase in Chinese agricultural exports to Russia through Manzhouli

In 2017, the export of fruits and vegetables from China to the Russian Federation through the Manzhouli (Manchuria) checkpoint of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (North China) amounted to 417.9 thousand tonnes, with a total value of $ 264 million. This was 24% and 16% more, respectively, compared to the same period in 2016, reports Xinhua News Agency.

Based on these figures, Manzhouli remains the most important Chinese checkpoint facilitating China's trade with the Russian Federation. Manzhouli is also China's largest land checkpoint on the Sino-Russian border.

According to experts, in 2017, due to a good harvest, purchasing prices for various types of fruits in China decreased significantly, which made it possible to improve their competitiveness in the Russian market.

Furthermore, the transportation of fresh fruits and vegetables from China to Yekaterinburg, Moscow and other Russian cities is increasingly carried out in containers instead of in the traditional way (by road transport). Thus, a new corridor has opened for the export of high-quality Chinese agricultural products to Russia.

To date, Manzhouli has established working relations with the provinces of Hunan, Hubei and Sichuan, and also improved its control mechanisms and expanded the channels for the export of fruits and vegetables.

The Manzhouli Migration and Quarantine Control Department has taken comprehensive measures to increase the efficiency of customs screening, which also contributed to a significant increase in fruit and vegetable exports.
