Growers and traders blame weather conditions

India: Alphonso price shoots through the roof

“The supplies of Alphonso mangoes have dried up due to recent weather fluctuations. Alphonso mangoes are in high demand in Europe and the Gulf, due to overseas Indian buyers. After that, the Alphonso prices will start dropping," said a trader. “Recent weather conditions have indeed badly impacted production and supply," said Sanjay Pansare, wholesale trader at APMC, Vashi. As a result, prices of this mango variety have gone skywards.

According to nyoooz.com, a box of Alphonso mangoes is currently being sold at the rate of Rs 6000 to Rs7000 (75–88 euros). Lower quality Alphonso’s are sold at Rs 4000-5000 (50–63 euros) for a 60-piece box.
