The 8,000 units belong to a larger container construction contract from Maersk Line. In order to provide their customers with even better equipment availability in the future, the container pools of Maersk Line and Hamburg Süd are expected to merge in the course of the second quarter of 2018. This will result, when including the more than 350,000 reefer boxes, in the largest and at the same time one of the most modern container fleets in liner shipping, to be used by both carriers.
"The new red containers produced by MCI are an important sign for our customers that Hamburg Süd will continue to meet its logistical requirements in the usual way in the future, just as we have always done," says Dr. Arnt Vespermann, CEO Hamburg South. "Customers of Hamburg Süd will continue to have the same, well-known contacts in sales and customer service with the usual high level of cargo expertise as well as the fast and unbureaucratic solution to special requirements."
"The new containers are a sign of our appreciation for the strong Hamburg Süd brand, and a concrete example of how we continue to invest in them to strengthen our respective brand promises," said Søren Toft, CEO of AP Moller - Maersk and member of the Advisory Council of Hamburg Süd.
