Rwanda: 75% increase in horticultural export takings in 2017

In Rwanda, income generated from exported horticultural produce reached $21 million in 2017, up 75% in a year. Bill Kayonga, Director General of the National Agricultural Exports Council says that the sector was "almost non-existent five years ago" and that it is now "an important contributor to Rwandan exports".

Rwanda aims to make $140 million from the horticultural sector by 2020. It currently represents 3% of Rwanda's GDP and 10% of their agricultural GDP. The main products include carrots, roses, cabbage, tomatoes, onions, aubergines, bananas and avocados.
