Acquisition enables Tomate Jouno to grow

The French company Tomate Jouno produces about ten different varieties of specialty cherry and cocktail tomatoes. Since its foundation in 1888, the company has been owned by members of the Jouno family. This year Christian Jouno, who represented the fourth and last generation, passed the ownership to Dominique Visonneau and Anne-Claire Goyer. The acquisition makes it possible for Tomate Jouno to grow and to increase production volumes. “This is necessary to meet the specific demands on the tomato market,” is their joint opinion.

Anne-Claire (33) grows tomatoes on 11 hectares. Her company is part of the cooperative Océane, of which she herself is the vice-president. Dominique (53) produces lettuce. Since 1999 he has been the president of Océane. Both describe this new challenge as “a beautiful project that is a natural extension of our existing activities.” The new owners will mainly focus on taste, quality and respect for the environment.

The most popular variety produced by Tomate Jouno is the Sweet Baby. Anne-Claire: “This is an exclusive variety which is produced by a few growers. It really is our flagship tomato.” Most of the volumes produced by Tomate Jouno are sold on the French market. A small part is exported to Germany and the Benelux countries.
