Switzerland: 8,000 tons of apples imported

Apple imports into Switzerland are normally only authorised as of April and they are limited to 2,500 tons. Special measures are being carried out, but without the imports there would be only a very small amount of Swiss apples on the shelves from mid-April/mid-May. The apple harvest was low last year, reaching only 40,000 tons (one third less than normal) due to frost in April. The fruit sector has asked to import 6,000 tons between January and March, authorities have allowed 8,000 tons between January and April.
