Eric Dierick of Beltran:

"There is no grape shortage to speak of"

The grape market was and is good, but according to importer Eric Dierick of Beltran, part of Group Achiel de Witte, it isn't going as smoothly as was expected. "Large shortages were announced due to weather conditions etc, but personally I don't think there is a grape shortage to speak of. I see enough of them here in Brussels anyway."

The quality of the grapes varies between regions, as do the calibres. If the season continues to go as it is, I believe both exporters and importers will be satisfied with the season," says Eric. Beltran limits itself to grapes from South Africa and Italy for grape imports. The South African grape season will continue for at least another two months for the Brussels importer.
