Italian organic grower-shipper focuses on natural products

"We think agriculture plays an essential role in ensuring the quality of the food we eat as well as a better future for both the environment and humanity. To us, following nature's rhythm and employing organic cultivation techniques are ways to help the well-being of the next generations," explains Nino Emidio Passalacqua, President of BioOrto.

Giulia Passalacqua, owner and organic produce manager for BioOrto, together with Mirko Conte, oil and processed products commercial manager.

BioOrto will attend Biofach in Nuremberg (Germany) from 14th to 17th February in Hall 1 - Stand 348, where it will showcase the best organic productions from Puglia.

The company is located in the heart of the Gargano National Park in Apricena (FG) and is a point of reference in Europe for the production and commercialisation of organic fruit and vegetables.

It was set up in 2003 and grows around 500 hectares of typical local products: cauliflowers, broccoli, fennel, celery, beets, radicchio, Roman cabbage, courgettes, plum tomatoes, melons, mini-watermelons and table grapes (on 30 hectares).

Over 70,000 tons of organic products are stored and processed in an area of around 130,000 sq m.

In order to meet the increasing demands of the market, the company set up a modern 20,000 sq m production plant employing over 200 operators.

Thanks to its 50,000 m3 of refrigerated units, the Hydro- and VacuumCooler and blast chill tunnel, BioOrto guarantees the best processing and storage of vegetables. The brand is synonymous with high-quality productions perfect to establish a relationship of trust with clients and final consumers.

All processes - from production to commercialisation - comply with the most important certifications on an international level, with the objective of obtaining sustainable products that respect the environment and its biodiversity (e.g. organic certification Reg. 834/07 and Biosuisse).

"In order to ensure the maximum safety to our clients, our processing warehouse holds the BRC and IFS certifications. For the past 10 years, our products have been available on the organic market, and we also export all over Europe."

"The evolution towards processing products is a natural consequence after years of experience in the sector. As we are excellent at growing fresh produce, we are also able to process it to obtain top-quality products in a well-designed packaging."

"Our tomatoes have a high lycopene content, so our tomato sauce has a lycopene content that is around 69% higher than traditional sauces. We use the most modern processing plants, although we employ artisanal techniques not to stress the raw material and maintain its nutritional properties.

"We are expanding, especially since the organic sector keeps on growing and becoming more popular in the retail and specialised store segments."

"We ship 80% of our production abroad, especially to Switzerland, Germany, the UK and Northern Europe, where our products are found in retail chains, organic shops and H&R sector. We also sell our processed products directly and online."

"Consumers are increasingly aware about the quality of food and a healthy lifestyle. We are promoting our brand along these lines."
