China: Retail prices of all chilli peppers are rising

In the last month, many vendors have purchased dried chilli peppers in the production area of dried 'Facing Heaven' chilli peppers. Most of these peppers are brought to the market or used in processing factories. Most visiting merchants buy all kinds of peppers, but dried chilli peppers are in the majority. The customers who buy high-quality products are beginning to increase. The reported prices are still relatively stable.

Henan, Hebei, and Shandong mainly produce pointed peppers, while the north-east, Gansu, and Inner Mongolia mainly produce a longer, curved pepper. Xinjiang mainly produces the longer, curved pepper and a straight pepper. This year, the weather conditions delayed the entrance of dried chilli peppers on the market. Hawking wares in each production area prior to the arrival of new peppers on the market caused market conditions to turn chaotic. All of this resulted in a shortage on the market. The prices of straight peppers, pointed peppers, and sweet peppers all increased.

According to preliminary statistics, the inventory of refrigerated warehouses in Henan production areas comes to around 22,000-24,000 tons. Jinxiang in Shandong has around 3,000 tons, and Dezhou in Shandong has around 2,000 tons. The inventory in other production areas is small. Their overall stock is not much. It is estimated that only 20% of the national stock is left in storage. This creates a strained situation for the future sales of chilli peppers.
