More Irish shoppers turning vegetarian

Ireland: Sales of fruit and vegetables increasing

Monday it was revealed that sales of spinach, berries and avocados have soared as health-conscious Irish shoppers turn vegetarian. One in five consumers bought meat-free products over winter, according to Kantar Worldpanel Ireland.

Their spokesman David Berry said “Shoppers’ increasing interest in vegetarian and vegan lifestyles was clear, as sales of vegetarian options surged by 18%. One in five shoppers picked up a vegetarian product during the past 12 weeks.”

According to the Irish Mirror, figures revealed Dunnes Stores netted 23.2% of grocery spending, making it the most popular retailer. Dunnes is said to have capitalised on the customer loyalty trend, successfully counteracting lower footfall with higher spending from its existing customers.”
