Great cultivation conditions in Rhineland-Palatinate
Jazz®: BayWa brings in the first German harvest for marketingRetail and agribusiness conglomerate BayWa has brought in the first harvest of the Jazz® brand apple in the Weisenheim region of Rhineland-Palatinate for commercial marketing in Germany. 100,000 trees on around 30 hectares were planted in the region since 2015, now being successively harvested. Even though some of the trees were affected by frost, the harvest volumes have exceeded expectations.
The climatically favoured region in southern Rhineland-Palatinate offers optimal growing conditions for Jazz® apples. And the marketing of the first domestic Jazz® apples has already been successfully completed. Since its launch in 2003, the variety has been well established and popular among consumers as a premium product from the southern hemisphere, France or Italy.
Its German origin is new, which is why a separate reference on the packaging in the food retail trade draws attention to the first domestic Jazz® apples.
Baywa.com reports that the BayWa Group has owned the Jazz® apple brand since the take-over of T&G Global, New Zealand's market leader in the sale and export of fresh fruit. Cultivation and marketing take place within the framework of a so-called club concept: The brand owner T&G Global coordinates the scope of production and defines the quality criteria. Only when an apple meets the stringent requirements, can it be marketed in the Jazz® brand packaging. In order to guarantee a year-round availability of the Jazz® apple, it has also been cultivated outside of New Zealand in selected regions of Europe for a few years now.
