Notice the water released by the rotting onions under the bins
"It's the first time something like this has happened and it's causing a lot of damage. The produce we harvested from late July onward has just been rotting away. Bins are leaking water, it's inconceivable."
What can be seen inside the bins
Basically, the produce that was harvested when temperatures exceeded 40°C (from 24th July 2017 onward) can no longer be commercialised. Some varieties are doing worse than others, such as Borettana or some white varieties.
Rotting onions
Bulbs are rotting in the bins and it's not a question of current temperatures, but rather of the produce itself.
In fact, the produce harvested before temperatures increased is doing okay. Those who harvested late will have quite a few problems and the price of good-quality early productions will probably increase.
