"China: "Frozen veggies are healthier than fresh ones"

"In the past two years, the sales of frozen vegetables on the domestic market
have been stable. Selling prices for frozen vegetables mainly depend on the purchasing power of the international market and the domestic prices of raw ingredients. Unfortunately, Chinese customers still prefer fresh vegetables to the frozen ones. They haven't understood the nutritious value of the frozen vegetables yet." said Xu Chuangang from Juxian Ruifeng Foodstuffs Co., Ltd.

"There is still a misconception that frozen vegetables are less healthy, because they've "lost" the vitamins. In fact, frozen vegetables have the same nutritional value as fresh vegetables, maybe even higher. Requirements for raw ingredients are higher. Frozen vegetables are not going through soaking and bundling, they can't be damaged during the transportation, which allows them to save the vitamins."

"We have the largest number of frozen vegetables to offer. Frozen onions, garlic and asparagus are our bestsellers. At this moment, we sell only a small amount of our products to Chinese restaurants and hotels. The largest part of our frozen vegetables is exported to South Korea, Canada, the US, Russia, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium."

"Production costs in China are relatively low, that's why we shred and slice our vegetables here. All the processes are mechanized. The types of packaging vary according to the customers' applications. For example, vegetables for supermarkets are usually packed in 1kg-2.5kg packages, while the clients who will use use frozen vegetables for making sauces and spices, require bigger packages."
