Isolcell - 60 years of controlled atmosphere

"We have been studying and manufacturing systems that use generated and controlled atmosphere since 1958. We were the first in Europe to develop these technologies and apply them to store food. This year, we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of our company and have various events planned," explained Hubert Wieser, sales manager of Isolcell.

Hubert Wieser at Fruit Attraction 2017.

Isolcell has a worldwide distributor and dealer network. "We comply with the strictest European and international quality standards and we hold the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 certifications. We can supply highly-personalised solutions that are reliable and that employ state-of-the-art technology."

The company history is closely linked to the development of controlled atmosphere technologies. "We believe in constant innovation and in using our experience to create innovative technologies for all sectors."

This year, Isolcell is celebrating its 60th anniversary. The first facility in Bolzano was in fact opened in 1958. "We started to set up the first controlled-atmosphere units in Trentino Alto Adige to store apples and pears. The very first gas-tight refrigerated units were made gluing bitumen-coated aluminium sheets to polystyrene panels. We introduced volume O2 and CO2 gas analysis through the ORSAT technology. Already in 1960, we started making units watertight using polyester resin with glass wool."

In 2003, the company signed an exclusive partnership for the distribution of a revolutionary technology developed by the Canadian government -
the D.C.A concept, acronym of Dynamic Controlled Atmosphere.

The latest storage technology - D.C.A. - C.F. (Dynamic Controlled Atmosphere with Clorophill Fluorescence), further improves fruit quality during storage.

Product quality is maintained by dynamically adapting the controlled atmosphere to the physiological condition of the produce to be stored as well as to its biological activity. This method was designed and patented by a Canadian government research centre and developed by the Laimburg Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry. Isolcell introduced this technology already in 2003 and currently holds exclusive distribution rights.

In over fifty years of activity, Isolcell has designed and manufactured countless experimental systems for research centres all over the world. They were developed in cooperation with users and were therefore customised based on specific needs. The company manufactures stainless steel containers, plastic containers, air-tight tents and experimental units of all sizes complete with the necessary accessories to function in controlled atmosphere.

What is more, Isolcell exclusively markets the innovative D.C.A.-C.F. system also for research institutes. Thanks to this system, research centres can drastically reduce the time necessary to identify optimal oxygen levels and create extreme atmospheres that can maximise the quality and storage life of products as well as control some diseases without the need for chemicals.

The company also supplies activated-carbon or chemical-absorption CO2 scrubbers, ethylene converters and scrubbers, nitrogen generators, O2, CO2 and ethylene analysers designed for small containers and managed by a computer programme created specifically for the research sector. In order to provide a global product, Isolcell Italia produces indirect refrigeration systems that can flexibly manage refrigeration in different units.

Fruit Logistica 2018 and much more
Thanks to continuous investments in R&D, Isolcell has contributed to shaping and revolutionising the sector. Various patents and exclusive rights confirm this success.

"We want to share our success, therefore we invite everyone to come to our stand at Fruit Logistica 2018 (Berlin, 7th-9th February). We will celebrate our anniversary with a toast Thursday 8th February from 5.30 pm to 7 pm in Hall 5.1, Stand A-05. We will be happy to discuss or past, current and future projects over a glass of nice wine."

Isolcell will also attend Macfrut, Fruttinfiore, Interpoma, Norddeutsche Obstbautage and Fruchtwelt Bodensee.
