Jeffrey Moret, TOFF, the Netherlands:
"Good foreign organic top fruit season expected"The demand for organic fruit and vegetables is demonstrating a continuing upward trend. "We are currently in a transition period with many of the products. The European organic top fruit season is almost over and we are on the brink of the foreign season", says Jeffrey Moret, Managing Director at TOFF, a Dutch organic fresh fruit and vegetable wholesaler. "We are going to run a full foreign import season this season, starting with the Williams pear from Argentina. Given the dismal organic top fruit availability in Europe, we are expecting demand to be sky-high. We are expecting to have to increase our volumes again."
TOFF usually imports organic ginger from Peru, but the first shipment of Chinese organic ginger arrives in Barendrecht this week. "Chinese ginger is traditionally less expensive than ginger from Peru. The demand for organic ginger from China has always been reasonably high", says Jeffrey. "We will still be importing organic greenhouse vegetables from Spain for a few weeks. Due to the unpredictable weather conditions, prices for these are also high. We are expecting the first Dutch organic cucumbers in March. In the summer season, we will be offering the whole range of Dutch greenhouse vegetables; from tomatoes to sweet pointed peppers, from cucumbers to bell peppers. With two new Dutch organic greenhouse farmers, we also have a larger assortment available."
Farewell to Cees van Vugt
Jeffrey started TOFF four years ago with Cees van Vugt. Cess has decided to part ways with the company at the end of February. This is why the Fruit Logistica team, where TOFF will be participating independently for the first time (Hall 3.2 - C-10), will consist of Jeffrey, Iris and Charona. They will also be at the Biofach next week.
