Sharp increase in banana imports through Shanghai port

Data from the Shanghai Import and Export Office for Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine, show that the port of Shanghai reached the important milestone of 1 million tons of imported fruit in 2017. This is an increase of 30% compared with the previous year. Bananas accounted for half the volume of imported fruit in Shanghai port.

Bananas are a popular fruit among the people and maintain first position throughout the year when it comes to overall import volume of fruit in Shanghai port. The following countries currently possess the inspection and quarantine qualifications to bring bananas on the Chinese market: the Philippines, Vietnam, Ecuador, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Colombia, Thailand, Panama, Laos, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan.
