Germany: Modest attendance at food packaging fair

At the Empack 2018 in Dortmund, there were only a few true packaging manufacturers with a focus on food. The packaging fair, which took place on 24 and 25 January in the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund, this year was dominated by packaging machines, cartons and modern labeling solutions. Nonetheless, the exhibitors offered a lot of new products that could be of interest to wholesalers, retailers and fruit and vegetable producers.

The exhibitor spectrum of the trade fair covered the entire value chain of the packaging and printing industry, as well as intralogistics. Among the new products presented were, among others, the new banderoller US-2200 from the ATS company, as well as the cardboard machine from the company CushionPack, with which one can produce packaging material from old cartons. Also very interesting were the Flyings stickers of Froben Druck. These labels are mainly used in advertising, as well as in food retail.

Boxes for mailing
Of the pure fruit and vegetable packaging there was rather less. Dutch company Poortvliet Packaging presented their fruit bowls and cups, which are already being launched in large quantities on the market. And then the recently invented e-food container of the Institute for Packaging Technology (IfV) should be mentioned. This shipping box would be an optimal solution for shipping mixed product ranges and comes in three variants (normal, cool and frozen/-20 degrees).
