China: Limited price increase for garlic during Chinese New Year
According to the Voice of Rural China, the garlic price has been rising for the past two years. In the second half of last year, however, it dropped quite a lot, making it unmarketable.
At the beginning of the new year, the price for refrigerated garlic was continuously rising, but started dropping again less than ten days after. Even though there were profits despite the low prices, the stock is still at a loss. A survey of the garlic market shows that the supply is relaxed, and that the price is rising one week, and dropping the next. Purchasers are hesitant to buy. If it is hard to distribute, it will be quite difficult to prop up the prices on the market.
Because the Chinese New Year is almost here, the demand for garlic is increasing. Even though the end of the year is imminent, many storage owners are planning to take advantage of the high sales speed around this time. If the owners are gathering their products, the rise of the garlic price will only be limited.
