Robbie Bloemendaal (Total Fresh) looking to expand with Mediterranean products

"Fresh produce keeps growing in Romania"

Robbie Bloemendaal has been active with the Dutch fresh produce company, Total Fresh, in Romania since 2010. The company imports a full range of fresh fruits and vegetables from Bucharest for local supermarkets. It also focuses on marketing local products. "In the Romanian market, supermarkets are continually expanding and their fresh produce ranges are becoming more extensive. Ready-to-eat products are available everywhere, as are all kinds of special tomatoes and packaging."

"We want to expand the range this year. We want to establish direct lines for watermelon and oranges from Greece as well as for tomatoes and other vegetables from Spain and Italy", says Robbie. "We also want to see what possibilities there are with Ukraine. This country has invested heavily in its own cultivation in recent years."

Local, Romanian production has also caught this fresh produce trader's attention. "We are in talks with apple growers. This year, we will have organic blueberries available for the local and export market", says Robbie. He looks back on a good year in 2017. Product prices were somewhat lower than the previous year. "At Fruit Logistica, I would love to make contact with companies looking for export opportunities to Romania."
