"It's a good moment to analyse the market and find a mutual solution"

“Ginafruit has been growing with its customers over the last few years. An example is the South Korean market, where before only the Filipino banana was known. However, nowadays the market has developed and it demands the Ecuadorian banana as well. A customer in this market started with importing one container and now imports 20 containers. The same is happening in other markets like Poland, Japan, and in South America countries such as Chile and Argentina which we opened a few years ago”, states Hugo Castro, general manager from Ginafruit, Ecuador.



The company is located in Machala, a southern area of Ecuador. Last year the company exported 5.200 million boxes, which is a growth of 88% compared to the year before. “About 30% of this volume comes from our own production area. A new project will help increase this volume, as we have recently bought an additional 120 hectares in the North of Ecuador, a different producing area in our country. We have been able to grow in such a way because we are signing agreements with supermarkets all over the world. A recent development is singing an agreement with a German supermarket.”

“Our company is present at the Fruit Logistica. It’s always a good moment to analyse the banana market. Because of the tough expectations for the banana global market in a few months, we should try to find a mutual solution with current customers. In addition, this exhibition is always interesting to meet new potential customers and increase your customer base and open up new markets. There are still destinations where our company has no constant presence yet, for example Algeria, Libya, Syria and Egypt”, concludes Hugo.
