Dull season for winter vegetables

The low prices for winter vegetables had yet to recover at the end of the second week of January. It’s a dull season for winter vegetables, confirms Dennis van Tricht of AGF Direct. “We’re not sitting around, of course, but it’s all just the regular amounts that have been agreed upon contractually. There’s no extra trade because of demand in export. The trade in both cabbage and beets is calm. The weather is just too warm. That’s true here in the Netherlands, but also in neighbouring countries, and even in Eastern European countries.”

Dennis has also noticed that the Dutch are currently not eating any exciting products. “Regarding domestic consumption, it’s all about hotchpotch with products such as kale, carrot and onions, sauerkraut and so on. We’re importing Spanish cauliflower, and are supplying contract volumes in that as well. You can really tell that everything is much calmer across the board.”

AGF Direct works with a number of permanent suppliers and growers. As a service provider, they’re bridging the gap between buyer and source.
