Joey Deen, Denimpex:

“Medjoul dates from Israel, Mexico and the US”

As of this year, Denimpex has an extensive range of origins of Medjoul dates at its disposal, from Israel, Mexico and the United States. “Most of the Medjoul dates in Europe come from Israel. Israel has the largest harvest, and the most competitive prices because of that. Over the years we have noticed an increase in exporters, which causes some pressure on prices. There’s a big difference in quality among the various exporters,” says Joey Deen.

Mexico Medjoul dates
“After one trial container at the start of 2016, we’ve made a nice programme of Mexican Medjoul dates this year. The dates are very well received by our customers. The dates are manually sorted in Mexico, so that the box looks incredibly beautiful and even. The quality and presentation is therefore exceptionally good,” Joey says. “Besides the 5-kilo boxes,we can also supply them in various other packaging, such as 225 grammes and 450 grammes, but also per three. We also have date-rolls of 225 grammes with pistachio, almonds and coconut in our range.”

“In the past year, we have seen an incredible increase in the sales of Medjoul dates. People are becoming more aware of what they are eating, and they want healthier food, but they still want something sweet as well. Eating Medjoul dates also has health advantages, for example, they’re absorbed by the body very quickly, and are therefore much used by athletes during and after working out. Besides, they help stimulate digestion, and are rich in fibres. They also contain high levels of potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and iron,” Joey concludes.
