China: Sugar orange market depressed

The new year has already begun, but fruit farmers are still occupied with citrus fruit products. The price of sugar oranges remains an issue between fruit merchants and fruit farmers. With the Spring Festival in sight, and despite the influence from two days of rain, the sugar orange producing areas in Guangxi have had a large output, but the price is still the same every day. The sugar orange producing areas in Guangdong are almost finished, and in Guilin, Guangxi, the production volume decreases every day.

A small proportion of the sugar oranges have shown damage from frost as a result of snowfall in the north and rainfall in the production areas. The product quality decreased, and this resulted in a slightly smaller volume of sugar oranges being transported. Furthermore, transport was slow. The sugar oranges that were protected sell at a relatively high price, but visiting merchants bought them at a high price and are suffering losses. At the moment there are few orders. People wait and see. In Guangxi many production areas suffered from citrus greening disease, with relatively many fruit and trees affected.
