China: First fruit imports arrive at Qingdao airport

On the afternoon of January 9th, 2018, 1400 kg of fresh cherries from New Zealand arrived at Qingdao airport after a flight of 27 hours. This is the first shipment of imported fruit to arrive at the Qingdao airport terminal designated for fruit import.

The shipment of cherries came from Central Otago on New Zealand's South Island, a world famous production area of cherries. In Central Otago they have the best quality cherries with a thin skin, a clear sweet taste, and rich juice. The overall output is not high. The annual export volume is around 1,500 tons to 3,000 tons, depending on the conditions of the seasons.
