"DOOR: "800 hectares by 2020"

The DOOR brands - Paprico, SweetPoint, Green Diamonds, Purple Pride and Prominent - will focus on sustainable growth in the coming years. This is according to DOOR's director, Jan Opschoor. He presented the company's goals for the near future at a New Year's meeting on 5 January. "We can look back at a positive year with good business results. We want to strengthen our position in the coming years. This will ensure continuity via sustainable growth. This will be done in three ways: increased supply, making cultivation even more sustainable and strengthening the market positions of our Prominent, Green Diamonds, Purple Pride, Paprico and Sweetpoint brands."

Growth in demand
In order to ensure the supply of top quality, fresh fruit vegetables to their customers year-round, this Dutch fruit vegetable growers cooperative wants to expand. "The total acreage will grow from the current 520 hectares to 800 hectares in 2020. The year-round availability of the product will also increase through the expansion of lit acreage and international cooperation."

On 5 January, Director Jan Opschoor presented DOOR's plans.

Sustainable cultivation
The DOOR brands are fully committed to ensuring their cultivation methods become increasingly sustainable. "The use of sustainable energy sources, such as geothermal energy and residual heat, will increase rapidly in the coming years. Further steps are also being taken to use only organic pesticides and use of water more efficiently. New ways of repurposing all waste and by-products are being sought."

Stronger market position
DOOR is also focusing on strengthening its brands' market positions. "The sales and marketing teams have all the necessary disciplines in place. This will help customers increase sales on the shop floor and increase the chain's efficiency."

In order to achieve these ambitions, an Excellence Centre is supporting members and business units in the areas of finances, ICT, food safety, HRM, business development as well as chain and information management.
