India: Mumbai cold storage facility inaugurated

On the 16th of December, IG International’s newly acquired cold storage facility in Mumbai was inaugurated by Stemilt Growers president Tate Mathison. The facility has the capacity for storing 4,000 pallets on an area of 5,000 square meters, maintaining temperatures ranging from -20 to 20ºC.

“IG’s leadership in cold chain maintenance allows us to provide fruit with the best quality for the Indian consumer market,” said Stemilt export manager William P Young, who accompanied Mathison.

The cold storage facility is the 16th of its kind to be being adopted by IG International. According to director Tarun Arora, this makes IG International the second largest cold chain company in India. Within Mumbai, IG International operates three other similar facilities. The other facilities are located in Panvel, Bangalore, Chennai, Amravati, Jaipur, Ganaur and Chandigarh.

The company is working on another cold storage facility in Krishnapatnam, which should be finished by March 2018. Other projects include locations at Kolkata and Delhi. “We aim to become the largest player within the fresh produce sector by the year 2020. By then, we hope to have a total capacity of 65,000 pallets,” says Tarun Arora.
