Do the Valais apricots really come from Valais?

Due to the frost in the spring of 2017, the expectations for the apricot harvest were low. The poor harvest increases the risk of other apricots being sold as Valais apricots, which will deceive consumers. The COFF Platform (Coordination Food Fraud), a task force made up of representatives of several federal agencies, for the coordination of the fight against food fraud, decided to investigate this.

The Department of Consumer Protection and Veterinary Affairs (Dienststelle für Verbraucherschutz und Veterinärwesen, DVSV) of the Canton of Valais carried out an investigation to check the origin of the apricots. The investigation proved that the 36 samples of apricots examined actually originated in Valais. The statement of the origin on the packaging of the apricots was correct. So consumers don’t have to worry about being deceived.
