Texel cooperative thriving thanks to TopControl technologies

The Texel cooperative (a part of Consorzio VI.P-Val Venosta) has been a strategic client for TopControl as regards apple packaging automation since 2003. One of the first FruitManager systems was installed here, which enabled the cooperative to improve its internal logistic process.

Five years ago, Texel started increasing its level of innovation and improving its internal flow through different phases.

Phase 1 – 2012/2013:
The cooperative decided to make its warehouse automatic and integrated within the logistic process to reduce costs and improve efficiency. TopControl played an important role as, thanks to the installation of the StorageManager connected to the FruitManager, it optimised the entire packaging, sorting and storage flow.

The result was more than satisfactory, as the availability of produce in real time increased considerably.

Phase 2 – 2014/2015:
With the replacement of the management systems in VI.P Val Venosta cooperatives, the interface towards the FruitManager/StorageManager system was revised to meet all retailer needs. The cooperative also replaced the grader to optimise apple sorting.

The machines used to be fed by operators who had to be available at all times. A wider automated management was therefore implemented to have more precise and versatile feeding operations.

Over time, demands from retailers have become more punctual and connected to availability, packaging options and order size. In order to reduce downtime between orders, an incredibly innovative apple water emptying system was implemented.

Together with TopControl, the supplier identified specific demands in the apple world, especially for what concerns the emptying system with integrated weighing and software management.

Phase 3 – 2016:
A fully automated feeding line towards the packaging line was implemented. In the past, operators had to move the fruit from the units to the line, but now there is a flexible automated system entirely managed by TopControl FruitManager and StorageManager.

Phase 4 – 2017:
Packaging lines were modified during phase four. This enabled the improvement of performances while drastically reducing downtime and keeping up with market needs.

"TopControl would like to thank Texel for such an innovative journey. We hope we will collaborate further in the future."
