German retailer Edeka is starting its 'Gut & Günstig' economy private label line for fresh fruit and vegetables. 20 products can be ordered by independent Edeka shopkeepers, including bananas, apples, clementines, oranges and tomatoes.

Grocery retail sales in Finland 0.9% up in October
A total of €1.34bln in October was achieved by Finnish grocery retail sales. Compared to the same month last year, it represents a growth of 0.9%. Finland’s grocery sales have risen by 1.6% in 2017 so far. Sales increased in grocery stores (+5.4%), large supermarkets (+2.5%) and hypermarkets (+1.5%) in October.

Germany: Major retail development for Aldi
A major retail and housing development has been signed up for by supermarket giant Aldi. The project at Ruabon involves a multi-million pound housing estate, a supermarket, retail and business units, pub, hotel and petrol station.

Finland: Russian expansion for retailer S Group
S Group, Finland’s biggest retailer, is about to expand. After the Ukraine crisis in 2014, it has put its Russian growth plans on hold. It plans to double its number of hypermarkets and supermarkets in St Petersburg in the next five years, according to Reuters.

Italy: 69 new stores in 2018 for Gruppo Selex
Gruppo Selex, the Italian grocery retailer, plans to open 69 new stores and invest €330mln. Gruppo Selex has also decided to refurbish 59 stores during the year. The retailer is set to end 2017 with a turnover of €10.78bln (+4.1% compared with 2016). Further growth is forecast for 2018, with a target turnover of €11.22bln.

US: Delivery plans for Albertsons at 1,800 stores
Together with Instacart, the Albertsons Cos. has signed a deal to bring same-day grocery delivery to 1,800-plus stores, with service in as little as an hour. The initiative will allow customers to choose from various banner stores for fast delivery. It is set to be completed by mid-2018.
