Wholesaler startled by 'extraordinary banana shipment'

Drugs discovered in Ilsfeld: 225 kilograms of cocaine found

On November 9th, an employee of the Fruchthof Nagel wholesaler in Ilsfeld found some unusual packages in a banana shipment from Ecuador. The banana boxes contained several packets, filled with cocaine. In a subsequent investigation of more than 1300 boxes, a total of 225 kg of cocaine appeared. The Heilbronn police says it is the largest drug bust since the turn of the millennium.

Pictures of the seized cocaine have been published by the police department

A police dog unit and units of the Heilbronn police made a record catch of 39 boxes with a street value of several million euros. Now the investigations are focused on backtracking the transport route, the destination for this shipment and the as yet unknown offenders. The staff of the wholesaler are not allowed to speak to the press during the ongoing investigation.
