Turkey, Iran and Qatar sign agreement to facilitate transport of goodsTurkey, Iran and Qatar signed an agreement on Sunday to facilitate transit and the transfer of commercial goods.
The agreement was signed by Turkish Minister of Economy Nihad Zibekji, Iranian Minister of Industry and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari and Qatari Minister of Economy and Trade Sheikh Ahmed Bin Jassim Al Thani.
The agreement signed by the three countries in the Iranian capital of Tehran will be beneficial for both the maritime and land transport sectors, thereby helping boost trade relations.
The agreement also foresees the creation of a working group representing the three countries which will hold three annual assessment meetings.
Turkey exported about $ 380 million worth of vegetables and fruits to Qatar from 1 May to 15 June; an increase of 724 percent over the same period last year.
The country set up an air route connecting Doha and Ankara and shipped more than 5 thousand tonnes of food to Qatar on board 71 cargo aircrafts within two weeks of the beginning of the Gulf crisis.
Subsequently, the two countries signed several agreements for the carriage of goods by land and sea via Iran, through the Red Sea and then the Arabian Gulf.
Since 5 June, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt have imposed a land, sea and air blockade on Qatar, after severing diplomatic relations with it due to its alleged support to terrorism, which Doha denies.
