"Chinese Keitt mangoes fill gap on Russian market"

"Mangoes are a reasonably priced fruit on the Chinese market. In Russia, on the other hand, they are classified as highly priced luxuries. Because of its environment, Russia cannot grow its own fruit. It mainly depends on imports from countries like Turkey, the Middle East and India. These countries all supply early ripe mangoes but their supply stops in the beginning of September. This creates some space on the Russian market for China's late ripe Keitt mangoes. Just like last year, this year is another fruit bearing year. The export prices are relatively stable, and the export has increased slightly," according to Ms. Yang Yangling, Managing Director of Golden Sunflower International Trade Co., Ltd.

"Keitt mangoes are not a Chinese breed. They are originally from Florida, America. In 1995, they were brought to Yanbian county in Panzhihua. Compared to other mango breeds, Keitt mangoes are high yielding, and have with a thick skin. They can be stored and transported well, and are sweet and juicy."

"Panzhihua in Sichuan, and Baise in Guangxi, are two large mango production regions in China. We work together with farmers from these regions, and sell their high quality mangoes to Hong Kong and Russia. Because it takes 10 to 12 days to bring our mangoes from Manzhouli to Moscow, we mainly sell Keitt mangoes to the Russian market. Their supply period is from the end of July until the beginning of October."
