Week 45 import market review

Price of imported fruits increased before 11.11 sales

Less than a week away from the 11.11 Shopping Festival, China's main on-line stores, including fresh food stores, began to stock up to meet the large amount of orders. As a result, market prices of imported fruit have risen by varying degrees in the past week. For example, the recently introduced, but already deeply popular, Chilean Cherry.

Last week, the Shanghai Huizhan fruit and vegetable market received the first batch of 2017-2018 season's Chilean Cherry. Since the cherry season has just begun, the cherries are pretty small. There are not many cherries in XL, J and JJ sizes. However, as the season proceeds, imported cherries are getting bigger every week. J size cherries now cost as much as XL sized ones. Last weekend, the price of the J (Dark) cherry increased from 850 yuan to 1000 yuan, while the price of the XL (Dark) cherry changed from 750 yuan to 850 yuan and it's sales are slower.

Another product that is getting popular among Chinese customers is the avocado. It appeared in many online stores right before 11.11. Market demand for Chilean avocados is growing and its price is increasing, especially the price of small-sized avocados. 30# (4kg pack) costs about 90 yuan and 84# (5.6kg pack) costs about 220-230 yuan. At the same time, the price of Mexican avocado is relatively stable. For example, 30# (5.6kg) costs around 130-150 yuan.

In addition, there are two new products that appeared on the market this week: Israeli pomelos and Dutch pears. This time it's not the same Israeli Green Pomelo as usual, with yellow flesh, but a new variety with pink flesh called Red Pomelo. It is more sour that the green one and more suitable for juice. The price of Red Pomelo is about 170-200 yuan.

It's been 3 years since Dutch pears appeared in China, but because their taste is very different from domestic pears, sales are going slowly. At this moment, the price of a 7.5 kg box of pears is around 110-120 yuan.
