"Chinese fruit imports up "15-20%" with more varieties available"

“The import of fruits to China have steadily increased year on year, and the varieties of imported fruits have also seen an increase. Imports of cherries, blueberries, avocados and durian increased most. In my opinion, compared with last year, the total import of fruits this year has increased by 15%-20%.” Zhao Xinwen, general manager and chairman of Beijing Thaihechuangye International Trading Co.,Ltd said.

“There are four main reasons leading to the continuous growth of imports: First, people's income increases year by year, which consumption among consumers. Second, the import season of many imported fruits is opposite to that of domestic fruits, as a result, imported fruit effectively fills the season gap in the domestic market. Third, some imported fruits have not started to be planted in China due to restrictions on production environment. The fourth reason is due to advanced planting technology and agricultural systems, which means that the quality of imported fruits is generally higher then those found locally.”

“Located in Beijing, XinFaDi international green logistics park has several stalls, and since 2012, through independent import trading and import and export processing, we have been importing high quality fruit, including cherries, bananas, durian etc. These come from many countries including Chile, Thailand, Vietnam and the United States. Through traditional sales channels, our fruits are sold to wholesalers, supermarkets and e-business platforms in 1st and 2nd tier cities in China. "Beijing market throughput is increasing, our trading is gradually go out, at this moment, the volume of direct import of the company accounts for more than 50% of our total imports. Last year alone, we sold more than 50 containers of Chilean cherries, and the annual imported durian reached more than 500 containers. I believe, with the development of the cold chain industry, positive national import and export policies as well as our improving own trade ability, we will bring more high-quality global fruits to domestic consumers in the future."
