The European Commission's work approach for 2018, entitled "Program for a more united, stronger and more democratic Europe", includes 26 new specific legislative measures in areas that it considers as priorities. "Specific legislative measures will be established with a view to the completion of our work in priority policy areas, which will be presented by May 2018, in order for the European Parliament and the Council to complete the corresponding legislative work before the June 2019 elections." Among this group of measures, one of special importance for the agro-food sector, according to FEPEX, is the proposal to improve the food chain in the EU, which would include a legislative proposal and an impact study, as reflected in Annex I of the Work Program.
The public consultation of the European Commission to improve the food chain, which started on 16 August and will close on 17 November, is currently open.
The Work Program for 2018, which consists of a political communication and five annexes, also establishes 66 outstanding priority proposals submitted in the last two years and which the European Parliament and the Council have to adopt.
