Stable prices of 7 Euros per box

Spanish lemons dominate the German market

Although the import season of overseas citrus and exotic fruits has already started, European lemons are still dominating the market. Especially Spanish and Turkish lemons complete the available range in Germany. According to the weekly newsletter of the BLE, the availability of lemons from South America and southern Africa is still low.

Sales Manager Reinfried Ernst, of the import company Mario Andretta & Co, with its headquarters located in Munich, stated that sales are characterized by the Spanish Priofiore lemons and the Turkish Interdonato lemons. “We sell about 2 to 3 pallets per week. The prices are about 7.50 Euros per 6 kg box, about 45 lemons, for Spanish lemons and about 9 Euros per 9 kg box, also about 45 lemons, for Turkish lemons. The quality is satisfactory, although the Spanish lemons contain more juice.” The import company has already ended its overseas import season. The sales manager stated that the overseas season starts in June and ends around September.
Juicy lemons come mainly from Spain

Overseas
Lemons are not the main trade of the Werder Frucht Company, but the products are part of the standard range they offer catering and supermarkets in Brandenburg. “They go for about 7 Euros per box, or 0,20 Euro per lemon. This is almost the same price as in the previous years,” says Stefan Taubert the Managing Director. Currently, the company only imports the yellow citrus fruits from Spain. “We import our overseas lemons from Argentina, but it is difficult to say when that will start.”
