Cutrale Brazil

A positive end to the fresh citrus campaign 2017

“Our last shipment of fresh Valencias left the Santos port in week 41, going to Europe and the UAE. This year’s season for fresh citrus started with a shipment of Eureka lemons in week 10. Our total export volume this year is higher compared to the volume of last year, despite the severe drought and extremely high temperatures during winter time. These issues have had an effect on the availability and quality of the citrus crop of this year”, explains Carlos Jose Amorim the export manager of Sucocitrico Cutrale Ltda.in Brazil.

He mentions that this has been a season without any phytosanitary issues. “We finished the campaign without any phytosanitary interception and discharged our fresh citrus in almost 20 different ports around the world. During the season of 2016 we only had one interception. These results show that we do everything possible for treatment and fruit care.”

Season 2018

Cutrale has recently invested in a 2nd electronic selection machine for the fresh citrus segment. “This Spanish sorting machine has  a processing capacity of 50mt/hour. It will improve the operational capacity in our packing house and consequently allow us to increase export volumes in the next fresh citrus campaign. We think this improvement was fundamental, given that, about five years ago we started selling our fresh citrus at the domestic market year-round, which consequently reduced our export volume.”

Carlos concludes: “The intentions for the coming season are to meet the growing demand from our regular customers and increase our share in Russia, Middle East, Canada and Asia. We are optimistic about the campaign of 2018. We expect to start around the end of March with fresh lemon (Eureka variety) and second half of April with fresh oranges (navel variety).”
