China: Zhouzhi kiwi production increased

"Zhouzhi County in Xi'an, Shaanxi, has become 'China's home of kiwis'. For many years, it has produced high quality kiwis. Around 60% of fresh kiwis and 80% of dried kiwis from China come from Zhouzhi. Compared to last year, the total Zhouzhi kiwi production has increased, and the market price has dropped," according to Mr. Liu Bing of Xi'an Si Ting Agriculture Co Ltd.

"The kiwi production in Zhouzhi lasts annually from the end of August until February the next year. This year, the county has experienced 15 consecutive days with temperatures of 41 degrees, leading to a decrease in production of approximately 20%. Last year's successful sales have motivated many farmers to increase their kiwi production. Because of these two factors, this year's Zhouzhi kiwi supply has increased somewhat, pushing down the market price."

"We have 18 hectares (180 mu) of kiwi fields in Zhouzhi, where we grow green (Cuixiang, Xuxiang, Hayward, Qinmei) and golden (Huayou) kiwis. We sell our high quality kiwis under our own brand 'Fei Hou Yuan' through traditional sales channels to distributors and supermarkets in Zhejiang, Xuzhou and Guangzhou. We also sell smaller quantities in our Taobao store. Currently, we are developing our online presence. In the future, e-commerce platforms will become our main sales channel."
