Week 42 import market review

China: Australian mangoes enter the market - American grape sales slow

Because of the national holidays, the import market has not yet returned to its usual activity this week. The sales speed of many products is lower than before the holidays. It is important to note that the market has now welcomed the new Australian mangoes of 2017. The increasing market supply is attracting the attention of many buyers.

This batch of Australian mangoes was brought to China by air transport, which is why the quality is very good. However, because of the holidays, the first batch was sold at a rather high price (11# at around 500 yuan), so the sales speed is very low. Simultaneously, Sichuan Kate mangoes have also entered the market, and Thailand is offering its mangoes on the Chinese market as well, which influences the sales of Australian mangoes.

Apart from mangoes, there is also an increase in the market supply of American grapes. The supply of black grapes is already back at the same level as before the holidays, and that of red and green grapes is also gradually increasing. There is a clear advantage in the sales of American black grapes. For a 19L pack, the price of black grapes is fluctuating around 360 yuan, and selling smoothly, whereas the same packaging of red or green grapes fluctuates between 200-250 yuan, and is selling rather slow. According to market analyses, the Chinese production of black grapes is very small, so there is a large demand for imported black grapes. Red and green grapes, on the other hand, are more common in China, so their demand is rather small.

The American grape supply has increased

In the middle of October, Australian and South African oranges started their last round of the season. The price does not differ much from that before the holidays, and is rather stable between 330-350 yuan for Australian oranges, and 165-190 yuan for South African oranges. Because of this price advantage, South African oranges are selling faster than Australian ones.

High quality South African oranges after the holidays

Different from oranges, the supply of avocados has increased after the holidays, but the demand has dropped. This has led to a lower price and a lower sales speed. Before the national holidays, because of the increased demand, avocados from many importers were sold. Mexican avocados were rarely supplied. The drop in market supply then pushed the price up to 170-180 yuan. After the holidays, however, the price of a 4 KG packaging of high quality Chilean avocados ranged around 100-120 yuan, and sold rather slow. However, because the costs per avocado are rather low, the 5.6 KG (this week around 140-160 yuan) and 10 KG (26# for 210-250, 84# for 180-220) packs of Chilean avocados are more popular on the market than the smaller packs of 4 KG, and are therefore selling better.
