China: Yanji Airport intercepts a batch of banned apples

On October 10th, when staff of the Inspection and Quarantine office at Yanji Airport examined the luggage of a traveller entering the country, they intercepted a box of apples carried by one of the travellers. The box had a net weight of 10 kilograms. Through inquiries, they discovered the traveller in question was an employee at a research centre and the apples were from Korea. They had been intended as gifts for the researcher's boss and colleagues and, if they had approved the taste, he intended to import more of the apples into China and graft a plantation. Because the traveller did not have any relevant documents for the quarantine and inspection, staff members on the spot had to act according to the regulations and they destroyed the goods after the interception.
