Peru: Icasur plans to export its asparagus directly to the US

The Peruvian company Icasur, which has 140 hectares of green asparagus located at the bottom of kilometer 486.5 of the South Pan American Highway in Nazca, plans to start directly exporting its production to the United States next year.

Company sources told Agraria.pe that this plan would be ready for 2018 and that in the meantime they would continue to work with collectors who would then export their asparagus.

"We are a new company ... in June of this year we made the first cut of asparagus and we have obtained an estimated 1,000 tons per hectare. Our projection is to export directly without using intermediaries and under our own brand," they said.

According to their estimates, in the next June-July season they will reach a production of 6,000 tons per hectare.

They also said that, in addition to North America, they were evaluating other places of interest, such as Europe.

Icasur has 40 workers, a number that increases in times of weeding, fumigation and harvesting.
