Jiu Tai's Modern Age
China: Tangelos to be exported in bulk
"Tangeloes are a high quality crossbreed of tangerines and pomeloes. They are orange in colour and their size lies between that of a tangerine and a pomelo. They have few pips, an orange and soft pulp, and their sweetness lies between 11-13," according to Mr. Wang Hengding, Director of International Business at Jiu Tai Modern Age Agriculture Co Ltd.

Tangelo fields
"In China, the production of tangeloes is located in Jianyang in Fujian, Qingyuan in Zhejiang, and Jiangxi. Compared to other citrus fruit, the tangelo production is very limited, and their price is rather high, at around 10 yuan per 500 gram. They belong to the middle and high end market of citrus fruit. Because of the weather, this year, the tangelo season will start between the end of November and beginning of December. Because of their thick skin, the tangeloes can be stored until February or March next year."

"We collectively own over 100 hectares of tangelo fields with the Fujian Jianyang Agricultural Cooperation. There were two main factors that made us decide to start producing in Jianyang. Firstly, Jianyang has a unique geograpical location that offers good water quality and suitable soil, so that the tangeloes have an amazing taste. Secondly, in the past few years, the Jianyang government has been continuously increasing its investments in the tangelo industry. Currently, the total tangelo production area is around 7,000-8,000 hectares. In the following years, it will reach 10,000 hectares."
The tangeloes are naturally grown
"Because of the limited production and high quality of tangeloes, the supply does not meet the demand. In the past few years, we have mainly sold tangeloes through traditional sales channels and e-commerce platforms to high end fruit stores and supermarkets in first and second tier cities in China, like Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou. After we received enthusiastic reactions from the foreign market, Jiu Tai Agriculture decided this year to start exporting our special tangeloes to Eastern Europe, South East Asia and Russia as well. Now that we have successfully tested the waters, we will start exporting in bulk next year."
