"Alexia Mannee: "Positive prospects for citrus"

Dutch fruit export company started in Spain: Delicious Fruit

For the past 30 years, Alexia Mannee, who hails from the Netherlands, has called Spain 'home'. She moved to this country with her parents at the age of five. Alexia grew up in the region between Alicante and Valencia. She has been working in the fruit industry since 2011. Last month she, and two partners, began their own business: Delicious Fruit.

"Our product assortment comprises of the whole citrus package - mandarins, oranges, grapefruit and lemons. In addition, in the upcoming season, we want to start with melons and watermelons. We are also planning to do kakis and quinces, which are cultivated abundantly in this region. We will stick with this at the moment", says Alexia. "We have a number of growers who produce exclusively for us. If there is more demand from our clients, we have the contacts whom can supply us with additional products."

"We have all the necessary quality certifications. We are focusing mainly on wholesalers and importers in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, and perhaps in the future, Eastern Europe too. We do not intend to sell to supermarkets; that's a whole other ballgame", says Alexia. When asked how Delicious Fruit is going to distinguish themselves, the fruit exporter answered: "Here, the client is king. Whatever the client needs, we will provide the best quality of, at the most competitive prices. Everyone says that, but that is not always the case. Delicious Fruit has excellent customer service."

Alexia is positive about the Spanish citrus season. "The volumes will be lower than last year, but the quality is excellent. They are going to be a bit coarser than last year. These are factors that can cause higher prices. All-in-all things look good and we're enthusiastic about the upcoming season."
