China: Autumn leeks hit the market selling at high prices

Leeks are just entering the market but in contrast to previous years, the leek market this year is temporarily still calm. The leek harvest this year was rather similar to previous years, but last year's price stood at 0.4 - 0.6 RMB for a kilogram (0.05-0.08 EUR) while this year they are being sold at 0.8 RMB a kilogram (0.1 EUR). Because of the festivals and holidays this year, the time at which this year's leek has hit the market was later than in previous years. Less and less people store autumn vegetables now, sales are lower than for wholesale channels, so the price unavoidably had to go up a bit. At the present stage, the selling prices for leek in fruits and vegetables vendor's booths are all between 1.5 to 2 RMB (0.19-0.26 EUR).
