First private vessel of Costa Rican pineapple and banana to Shanghai

“The only way of entering China´s market with our well-known Costa Rican perishable items is by having a direct service from our Pacific side of the country. Otherwise, our company and as well other exporters have to deal with the obstacle of about 30 days transit time”, starts the director Figueroa of Tropicalles del Valle, a Costa Rican pineapple producer, packer and exporter.

Figueroa continues: “As a result of the initiative of a very important Chinese wholesaler, a ship was hired to leave from Caldera, Pacific of Costa Rica and goes directly to Shanghai, China."

"The cargo of the ship is fresh pineapples and bananas. It´s expected to have a transit time of only 18-20 days, which should result in a good quality of fruits on arrival. The shipment left Costa Rica last Saturday, on the 23rd of September.”

While the vessel left the Costa Rican port on its way to China, Mr. Figueroa remarked this special moment with the words: “There goes the future of the fresh pineapple industry, as well as the recognition of the companies that believe in doing the best job possible in this industry.”
