“We’ve been exhibiting at the PMA for at least 25 years,” says Jim Grabowski with Well Pict. “I started with the company about 27 years ago and we didn’t exhibit the first few years. However, from the year we started, I have been to every single one of them.”
“It is such a well-attended event and a great opportunity to talk with existing customers as well as make contact with new customers,” Grabowski mentioned. “The timing of the year also works well for us as things start to slow down a bit.” Although strawberries are grown year-round, the time around PMA is a transitional period. Production out of Watsonville is slowing down and Oxnard will be starting up in a few weeks.

“It has been a productive season for strawberries and raspberries,” summarized Grabowski the year 2017. “We haven’t had any major weather events that caused supply or quality issues.” Grabowski is also pleased with berry exports as Well Pict has a strong presence into Canada and ships lots of strawberries to Japan. “Japan is one of our strongest overseas markets,” he said.
In its booth at the PMA, Well Pict will be featuring the Well Pict Berry Academy. It is on online program that aims to educate retailers and store employees on how to handle and merchandise strawberries. “We have added a few new videos that will be shown in the booth, so please come and visit us at booth #2844 in New Orleans.”
