Brazil: Increase in watermelon production through contracts and programs

The increase in production in recent years has been rising, as it is expected to happen in the coming ones. "We are expanding our Imperial watermelon plantation little by little, according to market demand," explains Roberto Martorelli of Martorelli LogĂstica. In this way, Brazilian farmers can be assured of having a niche in the market, and their production is not wasted. "We like to agree on a price with our partners and customers for the whole season because we do not like to play with the market. Our way of working is with programs and contracts, planting exactly what is agreed with customers. "

There are many Brazilian companies that work in this way. Their main markets are Holland, Germany, United Kingdom, Portugal and Spain, since about 90% of the planted production is exported. "Many of the country's companies go to the same markets with the same products, so we would like to be able to open horizons in countries in the Middle East, China, Japan or the United States."
